Sabbatical Presentation – Tom Casciero

Research in Devised Theatre Practices

San Jose, Costa Rica

This primary goal of Tom’s sabbatical  project was to research theoretical and practical approaches to devising theatre, creating theatre from the ground up.

He investigated and contrasted his own Neo-surrealist approaches with the Adaptive and Improvisational approaches developed by Roxanna Avila of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), David Korish of the Universidad Nationale de Costa Rica (UNCR), and the members of Teatro Abya Yala. While there he also participated in a week-long Voice Intensive with UK master teacher Helen Chadwick, taught Laban Movement and Lessac voice classes at UCR and UNCR, worked with devising theatre artists on a new piece, and translated several of his teaching documents into Spanish. This work built on his prior research and informed his teaching in several areas.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, December 11 at 3pm in the Center for the Arts 3037.
