The CLA Writing Center invites you to join us for the first of this semester’s workshop series on teaching and writing. These conversations are open to faculty from across the university who would like to develop more effective teaching strategies and innovative pedagogy in teaching writing and the use of writing as a pedagogical tool across the disciplines.
Spring Workshop #1: Effective Writing Assignments across the Curriculum
Subject: Professional Development for Faculty
Our first workshop of the spring semester will focus on developing effective writing assignments that are both theory based and practical in nature. We will discuss specific approaches to crafting assignments that are effective, clear, beneficial, and practical, designed to encourage better writing from students, no matter the discipline. By the end of this workshop, instructors will have a better grasp of creating writing assignments that are meaningful for both the student and the instructor.

Place: College of Liberal Arts Writing Center, LA 5330 for refreshments at 4:30. We will move to LA 4302 at 4:45 for the workshop presentation.
Presenter: Pamela H. Segal, Ph.D.
Dr. Segal graduated from the University of Maryland with her doctorate in Literacy. She is currently the Learning Specialist for the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams and is an instructor in the Secondary Education Department. Her focus is on literacy and the application of it across the curriculum.
