Richard E. Vatz, Department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development, appeared on Fox news nationally Nov. 7-8 to comment on President Obama’s promises to ensure that the Affordable Health Care Act would not make anyone lose their coverage or their doctor.  Locally, he appeared Nov. 7 on WBFF to talk about the probable accuracy of the “47 million” alleged to be on food stamps in the United States. He appeared on Jimmy Mathis’s WBAL show Nov. 9 as part of a panel with Bryan Sears and Sen. James Brochin to discuss the rhetoric of bullying in the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin controversy and Nov. 7 on Marc Steiner to discuss national politics.   He also provided an analysis in the November Baltimore Magazine of the importance of John F. Kennedy’s tenure as president per the 50th anniversary of his assassination.

Joyce Garczynski, Communications and Development Librarian, presented “Uncovering the Truth about Academic Integrity: A Content Analysis of What CUMU Members Websites Say about Plagiarism and Cheating” at the 2013 Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

Shana Gass, Research & Instruction Librarian, presented “Money Smart Week at Your Academic Library,” as part of a September 30 Association for College & Research Libraries webinar on financial literacy initiatives.  Money Smart Week is a yearly national personal finance education event sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; Cook Library expects to participate again this coming April.

Sarah Burns Gilchrist, Research and Instruction Librarian, presented “Immersion Teacher Track: FUNdamentally Intense” at the Maryland Information Literacy Exchange Fall Program in Columbia, Maryland November 8.
