Service-Learning Course Designation

This is a reminder that any class you meant to offer for Spring 2014 with a Service Learning component should be correctly set up on the Class Schedule with a Class Note of #24.

If a class needs the Class Note 24 added, please do so as soon as possible so this information can be conveyed correctly.

The class note reads: “Class requires 10-30 hours of service outside of scheduled class periods. Service may be on or off campus. Contact instructor for additional information.” Service Learning is defined as “a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development.”

If you are not sure if a class should be designated as a service-learning class, review the “Service-Learning Course Criteria” at the link named “Information for Faculty” at www.towson.edu/studentaffairs/civicengagement/servicelearning or contact Christopher D. Jensen, Director of Civic Engagement & Leadership [t. 410-704-4146].

In addition, we would like to know which classes in Spring, Summer, and Fall 2013 were service-learning classes. Please email me to let me know which classes in spring/summer and fall 2013 had a service-learning component and should also get the Class Note 24.
