Sharon Pitcher, Educational Technology & Literacy Department, has recently published a second edition of her book, Collaborating for Real Literacy: Librarian, Teacher, Literacy Coach and Principal. With co-author Bonnie Mackey (University of Houston at Clearlake), Dr. Pitcher updated the book to include many ways faculty from kindergarten through twelfth grade can collaborate to enhance literacy engagement in schools and collaboratively teach the Common Core State Standards. The first edition of the book was widely used in school systems and universities throughout the United States.
Diane R. Wood published a book chapter with co-author Dr. Luisa Deprez (University of Southern Maine) entitled “Teaching for Well-Being: Pedagogical strategies for meaning, value, relevance, and justice,” in Boni, A. & Walker, M. (2013) Human Development and Capabilities: Re-imagining the University of the Twenty-first Century.
Cook Library
Shana Gass, Research & Instruction Librarian, presented at the program, “Thinking Outside the Search Box: Discovery Tools in Reference & Instruction,” at the Maryland Library Association/Delaware Library Association Joint Annual Conference, in Ocean City, MD, May 8-11. Shana addressed the use of Cook Library OneSearch in research instruction for the Towson Seminar and in reference work. Co-presenters included Rosie Hanneke of the Loyola Notre Dame Library and Amanda Youngbar, MLIS student from University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. The program was part of a special session on discovery services, at which librarians from the University of Maryland University College also presented.

Retirement Announcement:
Dr. Dan Agley will be retiring from Towson University on July 1, 2013, after 42 years of service in the Health Science Department.
Dr. Agley expressed his “pride in the great success of our students upon graduation.” He noted, “I have great memories of the many students I have taught.” And while Dr. Agley has always been proud of the great success of Towson students, he noted that he is “most proud of the quality of our faculty and each person’s dedication while serving the Health Science Programs.” A quality he said that has allowed him “few regrets in the continuity of our programs.”
Dr. Agley requested, in lieu of a retirement party, that those wishing to say goodbye please stop by his office.
