Benefits Bulletin: Changes in Prescription Drug Coverage Effective July 1, 2005

All faculty and staff members and retirees who are enrolled in the State of Maryland?s Prescription Drug plan with CaremarkPCS are reminded that there have been some major changes to that plan effective as of July 1, 2005. Some of the changes include:

* An increase in co-payments to $5 for generic drugs, $15 for Preferred Brand name drugs and $25 for Non-Preferred Brand name drugs (compared with $3/$5/$10 co-payments that were in effect up to 6/30/2005);
* One co-payment required for prescriptions written for less than a 45 day supply; two co-payments required for those written for 46-90 day supply;
* Maximum out-of-pocket co-payment liability for employees/retirees capped at a total of $700 per person or family within the plan year;
* Certain drugs now require prior authorization before coverage is provided;
* Step Therapy process for certain drugs before coverage is provided;
* Managed drug limitations for certain types of prescriptions

Employees and retirees are strongly encouraged to contact CaremarkPCS at 1-800-345-9384 to find out how these changes may affect any prescriptions they may need to use, and their new out of pocket costs, before they have to use the benefit.
