Benefits Bulletin: Contract Renewals and Open Enrollment

All contingent staff, lecturers and part-time faculty members who are currently enrolled and paying for group insurance benefits with the State of MD are reminded that those benefits are active only through the end of their current contract period as printed on their coupons.

Those direct-pay employees who want to continue their current State benefits after the end of their current contract period must have their department head/chair send a brief statement listing their name, Social Security number and new contract dates to either Gail Price or Dave Curtis in Towson University?s Office of Human Resources Benefits Unit via e-mail or through campus mail. If the exact dates of the new contract period are not yet confirmed, the statement should indicate that the department intends to offer a new contract and include the expected dates of the new contract period.

This procedure is especially important now due to the Open Enrollment period that will take place from May 25 -June 15, 2005. The MD State Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will not send Open Enrollment materials to any direct pay enrollee without confirmation of their new contract dates beginning July 1, 2005. The earlier this information is submitted, the quicker the direct-pay member will receive their Open Enrollment materials and any new payment coupons from DBM. Remember that in order for a contingent staff member, lecturer or part-time faculty member to be eligible to participate in this Open Enrollment activity, they must have a contract as of July 1, 2005.

Questions should be directed to Dave Curtis, x4-6018 or {dcurtis@towson.edu}, or Gail Price, x46017 or {gprice@towson.edu}.
