The Maryland State Department of Budget and Management (DBM) recently announced that the state?s prescription drug plan will change from CatalystRx to Express Scripts effective 5/16/2012. This mid-year change is taking place as a result of the State Board of Public Works decision in February 2012 to award the state?s pharmacy contract to Express Scripts.
All faculty and staff employees who are currently enrolled in CatalystRx will receive materials from Express Scripts at their home addresses beginning in early April. That information will include, in addition to basic membership materials, details regarding the transfer of existing mail order prescriptions, prescriptions that are classified as requiring prior authorization or under step therapy, and any non-preferred drugs that are currently being used by a member.
While there will be no changes to the structure of the prescription plan (e.g. co pays will remain the same and the out of pocket maximums of $1000 per member/$1500 per family for active employees and $1500 individual/$2,000 per family for retirees, will continue to be tracked through the end of this plan year), participants who currently use Walgreens will have to transfer their active prescriptions to a different pharmacy since Walgreens pulled out of the Express Scripts network late in 2011. Specific details concerning participating vs. non-participating pharmacies and transfer of basic prescriptions will also be included in the materials to be sent out in April. All enrollees will also receive new Express Scripts ID cards by early May in time for the transition.
More information will be posted in future Open Enrollment Updates on Daily Digest.
