All contingent staff, lecturers and part-time faculty members who are currently enrolled and paying for group insurance benefits with the State of MD are reminded that those benefits are active only through the end of their current contract period as printed on their coupons.
Those direct-pay employees who want to continue their current State benefits after the end of their current contract period must have their department head/chair send a brief statement listing their name, Social Security number and new contract dates to either Gail Price or Dave Curtis in Towson University?s Office of Human Resources Benefits Unit via email or through campus mail. If the exact dates of the new contract period are not yet confirmed, the statement should indicate that the department intends to offer a new contract and include the expected dates of the new contract period.
This procedure is especially important now due to the Open Enrollment period that will take place from May 24 -June 14, 2006. The MD State Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will only send Open Enrollment materials to direct pay enrollees for whom they have received FY 07 contract renewal dates by May 26, 2006. Remember that in order for a contingent staff member, lecturer or part-time faculty member to be eligible to participate in this Open Enrollment activity, they must have a contract beginning July 1, 2006.
