Beware of Vendor Telephone Offers

A Towson University employee recently received a call from a company by the name of Commutel. The caller gave the clear indication that a product was going to be sent as the last issue of a volume that Towson University had already purchased. The caller further stated that once we received this product, the account would be closed. The Towson University employee was quite surprised when the item arrived marked Volume one. It was found that Towson University had not made a prior purchase from this company. Numerous fruitless attempts to resolve the situation and return the item were followed by the Towson University employee being lured into signing an agreement to pay a reduced cost in order to receive the necessary return authorization number.

The Better Business Bureau records indicate many unresolved complaints about Commutel. The company has been notified that they are not to solicit their products and/or services to Towson University and its? employees. If a Commutel representative contacts you, simply hang up and contact Barbara Hufnagel at 410-704-3486 or bhufnagel@towson.edu immediately.
