Civic Engagement Faculty Workshop

Beyond the Campus: Your University and Your Community, David Maurrasse, February 18, 2005. Dr. David Maurrasse is in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University where he founded the Center for Innovation in Social Responsibility. He is the author of Beyond the Campus: How Colleges And Universities Form Partnerships With Their Communities.

The workshop begins with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the University Union Chesapeake III. Between 9 a.m. and 12 noon, Dr. Maurrasse will address the following: Why community Engagement is important, case studies of the role of universities as “anchor institutions” in their communities, and how community engagement can be achieved (research, service, teaching, economic development). Lunch will be served between noon and 1 p.m. when we will reconvene to sketch out a road map for community involvement that we can use to design a longer-term strategy.
