OPEN ENROLLMENT UPDATE #1

* The official dates for the 2003 Open Enrollment for the 2004 plan year period still have not been announced by the MD State Department of Budget and Management (DBM) however the 2004 rates for medical, dental, life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance have been released. Unfortunately, the new rates for the prescription drug plan are not yet available. Employees may access the new 2004 rate sheets by going to DBM’s website www.dbm.maryland.gov and clicking on the Employee Services tab.

Based on the 2004 rates, all the medical plans will increase in cost from approx. 1.6% for the HMO’s to 24% for the Aetna POS plan; CareFirst BC/BS PPO members will see a 5.2% increase in ’04 while MLH Eagle PPO members will have a 1.8% increase. All the dental plans (United Concordia’s DHMO & DPOS and Dental Benefits Providers DHMO) have increased by an average of 1.7%. As far as we know, there will be no increases to the current co-pays for medical services.

** We will still be holding the 15th biannual Benefits Festival on Wed, Oct. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 2p.m. in the University Union’s Potomac Lounge. Plan on coming by anytime during the scheduled hours to meet with reps from the various state insurance plans, supplemental retirement plans, and other benefits providers as well as TU departments who are eager to share the details of their services with all employees! Register for raffles, enjoy light refreshments and take advantage of health screenings/activities such as free hearing screenings by Towson University’s Speech and Hearing Clinic, sampling the benefit of acupuncture and/or get a flu shot for $15 from TU’s Dowell Health Center! Hope to see you there!
