Teaching with The New York Times

The Towson University Civic Engagement Steering Committee and The New York Times Knowledge Network are pleased to present “Teaching with The New York Times” Luncheon/Workshop on February 17th, 2006 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the Potomac Lounge.

Promoting civic engagement is a university priority that is captured in Towson University 2010. The Civic Engagement Steering Committee, whose charge is to help move campus forward in developing an agenda for civic engagement, is pleased to offer this luncheon sponsored by The New York Times as a way to further discussion on civic engagement and to help identify ways that faculty and staff can be more intentional about creating civically engaged students.

The New York Times Knowledge Network, in partnership with the American Democracy Project, has worked with faculty to integrate The New York Times into the curriculum as a way to:

Encourage critical thinking
Promote global awareness
Cultivate social responsibility
Bring relevancy into the classroom
Foster serendipitous learning

We think you will be excited about some of the ideas that will come from this luncheon and hope that it will serve as a springboard for future meetings to discuss ways to create a climate of engagement at Towson.

Please RSVP by February 14th to Jerri Sumwalt, {jsumwalt@towson.edu}; 410-704-2332.

Feel free to share this invitation with others in your department for whom this might be of interest.
