Open Enrollment Update #5: Contract Renewals and Open Enrollment

All contingent staff, lecturers and part-time faculty members currently enrolled and paying for group insurance benefits within the state of Maryland are reminded that those benefits are active only through the end of their current contract period as printed on their coupons.

Direct pay employees who would like their current state benefits to continue after the end of their current contract period must have their department head/chair send a brief statement listing their name and new contract dates to either Gail Price or Dave Curtis in Towson University?s Office of Human Resources Benefits Unit. If the exact dates of the new contract period are not yet confirmed, the statement should indicate that the department intends to offer a new contract and include the expected dates of the new contract period.

This procedure is especially important due to the Open Enrollment period that will end for direct pay employees Wednesday, May 14. Before the Maryland State Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will send out payment coupons for the plan year beginning July 1, 2008, they must have new contract renewal dates. Remember that in order for a contingent staff member, lecturer or part-time faculty member to be eligible to participate in this open enrollment activity, they must have a contract as of July 1, 2008.

Questions about this matter should be directed to Dave Curtis at x4-6018 and {dcurtis@towson.edu} or Gail Price at x4-6017 and {gprice@towson.edu}.
