Making A Technology Purchase? Let Us Help You!

Thinking of purchasing a desktop computer, laptop, printer, scanner, smart phone, PDA, or other technologies for university use? The Office of Technology Services (OTS) can help administrative and academic departments select cost-effective brands and models that meet business, instructional, or research needs within a range of supportable standards.

Whether you’re buying a single item online with a procurement card, picking up something from Towson Town Center’s Apple store, or placing a large order through a purchase requisition, good advice up front may save you time, money, and the frustration of having to return something that just doesn’t play well in our network neighborhood.

If non-standard technologies are being considered for purchase through grant money, new faculty start-up funds, or through corporate or governmental partnerships, our staff will work with you to find a solution that meets your needs while ensuring compatibility with other systems, consistency with security best practices, and compatibility with what we can support well to the benefit of the community as a whole.

More guidance will follow in the coming months, including an online Technology Buyer’s Guide. In the meantime, before you buy, please call the OTS faculty/staff Help Center at 410-704-5151, (2+2+2 on the voice menu) to request consultation services for your hardware purchases.
