Expecting an Urgent Package?

Materiel Management would like to remind you to contact us if you anticipate receiving an urgently needed package by a certain date, especially if it is for a weekend or other special off-hour event.

Direct purchase shipments are generally delivered to departments the business day following the day it is received by Central Receiving. Overnight and other “express” deliveries are delivered directly to you by the commercial carrier.

Small package carriers sometimes flag their express deliveries in the packaging they make available to shippers. We have found that this packaging can be misapplied, causing confusion for consignees who expect express service when seeing an “express” package when in fact the actual service paid for may be standard ground delivery. The delivery label itself, not the packaging, indicates the actual service.

If you actually need “express” next-day or two-day service, please make sure that you request it and get it when making a purchase.

In the event that a regular, non-express shipment becomes urgent in the interim of vendor processing and carrier handling, let us know and we will flag the order for your notification. When delivery is made at our receiving station, we will contact you so that you may either pick up the package at our warehouse or, circumstances permitting, we will attempt same-day delivery. Otherwise, delivery scheduling will be as usual.

If you need to contact us about a delivery, you should have the following information ready:

1. Name of addressee
2. Department name
3. Vendor/Shipper
4. Order number
5. Date expected or date shipped
6. General description of order
7. Contact name and extension

Central Receiving is available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at x4-2478 or x4-3833. If you need to contact us later after hours, call Materiel Management’s administrative office at x4-2479 or e-mail {pbutler@towson.edu.}
