TU?s Temporary Salary Reduction and Administrative Furlough Leave Plan

The temporary salary reduction and administrative furlough leave plan will begin October 7, 2009 for regular status employees and October 10, 2009 for contingent status employees. The plan is available in full at {http://www.towson.edu/adminfinance/hr/employment/documents/FurloughMemoFinal_09.pdf}. Here are a few highlighted points:

– All employees included in the plan will receive a letter from the Office of Human Resources explaining their temporary salary reduction and the number of administrative furlough hours to be made available.
– The allocation of salary reductions and administrative furlough leave is based on an employee?s primary position, percent employed (FTE) and annualized salary as of 10/06/09.
– Beginning 10/7/09 for regular employees and 10/10/09 for contingent employees, the pay checks of employees affected by the plan will contain a pre-tax adjustment that temporarily lowers their bi-weekly salary rates. Rates of pay will be restored to pre-temporary salary reduction amounts after 6/15/10 (regular status), 6/18/10 (contingent status), 6/01/10 (reg. 21 pay faculty), and 6/04/10 (cont. 21 pay faculty).
– Employees will work with their supervisors to determine the specific day or days during that individual administrative furlough time will be used.
– Administrative furlough leave can be used in hourly increments. There is no restriction on the amount of administrative furlough leave time that can be taken during a pay period, but operational needs must be considered.
– Employees with the following statuses are exempted from the plan: part-time faculty, Contingent Category I staff, employees currently on an H-1B Visa sponsored by Towson University, student employees, graduate students, teaching assistants, and employees hired with an effective date between May 5, 2010 and June 30, 2010.
