Campus Phone Upgrade ? Timeline, Training

This fall, TU is undergoing a campus-wide initiative to replace the university?s legacy phone system with a new Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system that uses data lines to provide increased functionality for campus users. The new system provides all the normal phone features as well as conferencing for up to six callers, information on missed/placed/received calls and a searchable campus directory. The project will also involve the installation of a new voicemail system that will enable voicemails to be sent to your e-mail inbox and either read or played through your computer speakers.

Timeline
The project will begin in October, and we expect that all buildings will have the new system by March 2012. The full project timeline is available at {www.towson.edu/phones}.

Training
Don’t be afraid of the new technology ? there is plenty of training information available to help you learn the new system quickly and easily! Quick reference guides and video tutorials are available online at {http://www.towson.edu/adminfinance/ots/rolloutprojects/voip/support.asp}. Frequently asked questions are answered at {http://www.towson.edu/adminfinance/ots/rolloutprojects/voip/faq.asp}.

What to Expect
We expect that departments will experience minimal phone outages during the upgrade. Phone numbers will NOT change. Users will maintain the functionality of the current phone system, plus more.
