The use of Web 2.0 tools by faculty to instruct students and enhance classroom learning is increasing. Towson instructor Cheryl Wood is using Web 2.0 tools to incorporate collaborative and team learning into the classroom. Join us as she discusses how and why she has incorporated the use of wikis and other Web 2.0 applications into both her undergraduate and graduate courses.

Emerging Technologies – Networks in the Classroom: Using NodeXL to Analyze Social Networking

Join Dr. Samuel Collins, Department of Sociology, for his hands-on workshop on the analysis of social networking in the learning environment. During the workshop, you will have an opportunity to utilize a popular, open-source extension to Microsoft Excel to examine the social networks that have become critically important to life, relationships and learning in the Web 2.0 age. You will complete three step-by-step activities which will introduce you to the basics of network analysis, including: 1) downloading data from Facebook, Twitter and email accounts; 2) building network visualizations; and 3) doing some basic analysis showing which people and relationships are most important in a given network.

Emerging Technologies – Using Captivate to Create Interactive Games for Classroom Learning

Presented by: Judy Ou (graduate of Towson?s Instructional Technology Master?s program and former CIAT Intern)
Towson faculty members are exploring the use of interactive games as supplemental instructional resources. Judy Ou (graduate of Towson?s Instructional Technology Master?s program and former CIAT Intern) worked with Instructor Karen Renaud from the Department of Health Science, to develop an interactive game for Health 101 using Adobe Captivate software. The game was created using the TU Jeopardy template, which was designed to be easily modified to suit any subject. Join Judy Ou as she discusses the development process, demonstrates the captivate game and reviews the steps necessary to modify the game template for your class. Please join us and bring your questions!
