Teaching with the New York Times
For the past two years Towson University has partnered with the New York Times in the ?Teaching with the New York Times? readership program. This past semester nearly 60 faculty members incorporated the newspaper into more than 100 course curriculums.
This integration promotes civic engagement as the paper is used to:
Encourage critical thinking
Promote global awareness
Cultivate social responsibility
Bring relevancy into the classroom
Foster serendipitous learning
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
Students are able to pick up copies of The New York Times at several locations on campus including: the University Union, Center for the Arts, Glen Dining Hall, Stephens Hall, Psychology Building/Hawkins Hall, Linthicum Hall, Van Bokkelen Hall, and the Media Center. Faculty members receive complimentary copies of The Times at HOME, Monday through Friday, to make preparation for class more convenient.
