FOCUS THE NATION
TODAY, January 31, 2008
Towson University is hosting this day-long event in conjunction with thousands of colleges, universities, and K-12 schools across the nation, who will be engaging in a nationwide and community based discussion on “Global Warming and Climate Change Solutions.” The goal of this event is to focus one day’s activity on the profound implications of climate change and think creatively about developing potential solutions {www.focusthenation.org}.
Faculty can engage classes in this event by discussing global warming and climate change today in their classes.
Whether it be for 10 minutes or the entire class period, students might discuss:
How climate change will affect them personally
The impact on your specific discipline
Potential long term and short term solutions to climate change
We encourage you to post class “solutions” to our wiki site: {http://tufocusthenation.pbwiki.com}. This site also contains resources on global warming and climate change, suggested in-class activities for faculty, and a complete listing of all events scheduled for the day. Activities include symposium presentations, film screenings, a Focus the Nation Fair and Student Art Exhibit.
Class suggestions posted on the wiki will be the basis for the culminating “Campus Conversation with TU Administrators” at 3 PM in the University Union, Potomac Lounge. Consider sending students from your class to this discussion to present solution ideas.
