ENDING FINANCIAL REPRESSION IN CHINA
Prof. James A. Dorn*, Economics Department

Economic reform since 1978 has transformed China and created a vibrant private sector. The state, however, still has strong control over the financial sector, and China has a tightly regulated capital account.

What steps does China need to take to end financial repression, and how will capital account liberalization affect investment decisions, the banking sector, and economic growth? Those and related questions will be addressed in this lecture.
