Towson Athletics and Fidelity Investments to Honor Dr. Jay Zimmerman
Dr. Jay Zimmerman, TU Professor and Director of the Applied Mathematics Laboratory, will be the ?Fidelity Investments Guest Coach? when the Tigers battle Columbia University this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Unitas Stadium. In a new partnership with Fidelity Investments, the Tigers will honor a faculty or staff member at each of six home games during the 2008 football season.
Dr. Zimmerman and his family will be guests of Athletics and receive VIP treatment all day. Included in the activities are a guided tour of the academic services and athletics facilities, tickets to the exclusive Minnegan Pre-Game Club, a live interview on the Towson Football pre-game radio show on WNST 1570 AM, a sideline pass to catch some of the action from the field and a feature piece on the new high-definition TigerVision video board.
Before coming to Towson University in the fall of 1989, Dr. Zimmerman was on the faculty at Michigan State and the University of Alabama. He received his Ph.D. in 1983 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His main research interests are in Group Theory, Combinatorial Group Theory and Groups acting on Riemann Surfaces. Dr. Zimmerman was nominated for the Fidelity Investments Guest Coach by Bobbi Madison, Director of Academic Services for the Department of Athletics.
Dr. Elizabeth Clifford from the department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice was honored at the first home game against Morgan State. A Towson faculty member since 2000, Dr. Clifford?s research interests include inequality, race and ethnicity, gender, and immigration. She is also the coordinator of the Baltimore Immigration Summit.
The new corporate partnership with Fidelity Investments centers on Tiger Athletics? outreach to faculty and staff at the university. It includes the Fidelity Guest Coach program, hospitality events for new employees, game day sponsorships and a designated seating section at home games for TU faculty and staff. In addition, Fidelity is a charter member on the TigerVision video board project in Unitas Stadium.
