All faculty members are invited to attend a Computational Thinking workshop to be held Friday, January 16th from 12:00-3:00pm. The purpose of this workshop is to help faculty understand, explore, and potentially develop new course proposals involving ?computational thinking? as incorporated in their subject area. The most promising proposals will be selected for full development and piloting during the 2009-2010 academic year. Faculty whose proposals are accepted will be provided summer funding of $5,000 for summer 2009, plus travel money for eventual presentation of results. Funding of this project is provided by an NSF CPATH grant titled ?Piloting Pathways for Computational Thinking in a General Education Environment.?
Charles Dierbach and Harry Hochheiser (of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences) along with Christopher Ariza (of the Department of Music) will work with faculty during the workshop on the development of proposals. Faculty members with interest in the notion of computational thinking but not currently interested in developing a course are also encouraged to attend.
