General Education Assessment: Methods to Assess Learning in Gen Ed Courses

Assessing student learning in general education classes can inform us about the ways in which students acquire and use core skills such as: oral and written communication, quantitative analysis, critical thinking and analysis, information literacy, scientific reasoning and other abilities that form the basis for higher education. Unique challenges to general education include assessing across disciplines and assessing application of general education skills to higher level courses. This workshop will help you work from general education goals to course content to assessment methods. In the end, you will leave with a tool box of potential assessment methods for general education courses and goals. Please bring with you to the workshop copies of your gen ed course syllabi and course goals or objectives. This workshop is presented by the Office of Assessment and the Center for Instructional Advancement & Technology.
