Dr. Cindy Gissendanner, Professor of History, will present her sabbatical research presentation on ?The Block? as a cultural icon. “The Block,” Baltimore’s famed vice district, has figured prominently in literary, artistic and cinematic depictions of Charm City. This presentation uses portrayals of “The Block” in film to explore the interactions of local subcultures based on race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, gender and politics.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Towson University is a component of the Center for Professional Studies (CPS) and the Division of Economic and Community Outreach (DECO). A supporting membership is open to Towson faculty and staff of any age.
