Topic: Security: Managing Risk in a Constantly Changing World
Date: October 13, 2011
Location: Towson University
Please join members of the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum and invited guests at the October 13, 2011 meeting!
CIOs must manage risk in a world that is constantly seeing three major challenges occurring simultaneously. These challenges include emergence of new threats, identification of new business requirements and implementation of new technologies. It is a world of constant proactive and reactive dynamics. In this meeting, participants will hear not only an update on threats and ways to combat them but also participate in examining differing perspectives on security strategies.
In the first half of the meeting, Jill Knesek, Head of Security, British Telecomm Global Services, will present ?Managing Risk in Today?s Cyber World?. Ms. Knesek will begin setting the stage by updating the group on emerging threats and challenges in managing risk today. This will include consideration of not only the erosion of the perimeter of computing environments but also controlling risk from today?s unique computing requirements such as mobile computing and social networks. She will discuss how BT is managing risk for itself. Then Ms. Knesek will provide insight on what an enterprise should be doing now to manage risk, detailing several challenges to be addressed and outlining a security awareness program.
In the second half of the meeting, the focus will shift more specifically to risk management in cloud computing. ?In the global, digital marketplace, the weakest link in sustaining control over the quality and integrity of a company?s digital assets is the commercial contract. To succeed in securing the competitive advantage of the cloud, CIO?s must embrace new strategies for how to use the contract as a tool for advancing their organization?s objectives?(Jeffrey Ritter). Jeffrey Ritter, Founder and CEO, Waters Edge Consulting, will present five insights into how CIO?s can lead differently, and with greater success, in sustaining trust in their company and improving the velocity with which business gets done.
