Multiculturalism in Action Brown Bag Series

Wednesday, April 18, 12:00 to 1:15pm, College of Liberal Arts, room 3150

“Between Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Arab World: The Complicated Identity of the Maghreb “

Dr. Ziad Bentahar, Department of Foreign Languages

The Maghreb is the area in Northwestern Africa usually viewed as the former French colonies of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. It is a part of the world often viewed as existing “between” various regions and spaces: Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Arab World. This is based on an implicit assumption that these regions and spaces are mutually-exclusive. We will seek to dismantle this problematic assumption from a comparative literary perspective.

This event, sponsored by the Office of Inclusion and Institutional Equity, is open to all faculty, staff, and students. Light refreshments will be provided.
