The Office of Academic Innovation would like to invite you to attend the Fall 2017 eLearning Series presentation How to Make Your Online Courses “Copyright-Smart”.
Copyright is presented all too often as an obstacle, even a threat, to educators. But showing a proper regard for the law—and respecting the copyrights of others, just as we would want our own rights respected—needn’t be so onerous. This workshop will take a best practices approach, showing how faculty and students can take reasonable steps to avoid common copyright pitfalls and mistakes. Topics to be covered include fair use, the distinctions between copyright infringement and plagiarism, how to find and use “open” educational content, and how to provide legally compliant course materials and library resources for students who may never set foot on a physical campus. Following a brief presentation by TU Copyright and Scholarly Communications Librarian Rick Davis, we’ll break out into small groups to discuss common copyright-related scenarios, then we’ll come back together to share how we would approach each situation in a “copyright-smart” manner.
