Apply to be a Learning Partner with Alternative Break Connections

Alternative Break Connections is now accepting applications for the position of Learning Partner on the upcoming Winter 2018 ABC trip focusing on immigration and human rights.  Trip dates are January 7th – 14th, 2018.

Position Overview

Alternative Break Connections (ABC) is a student organization at Towson University and is advised through the Office of Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility.  ABC provides service experiences for students during academic breaks.  Each experience focuses on a social issue and includes experiential learning as well as educational and reflective programming.  ABC experiences travel to communities throughout the United States and abroad.  Academic credit is not awarded for ABC experiences.

Learning Partners are Towson University Faculty or Staff who attend the ABC experience as a participant, serving alongside student participants.  Additionally, Learning Partners contribute to the educational elements of the program.  As needed, Learning Partners are expected to provided assistance to student Site Leaders.  This assistance may include advising student leaders in conflict management, or ensuring the safety of the group in an emergency situation.  A successful learning partner will be fluent in the local language of the ABC experience, and will have knowledge of the social issue and educational content of the trip.

Requirements

Learning Partners are required to attend two planning meetings with the student Site Leaders and Staff Advisor.  Dates for these meetings will be determined by the involved parties.   Learning Partners are also expected to attend two pre-experience meetings with the Site Leaders and Participants.  The first pre-experience meeting is set for November 1st, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.

ABC is currently accepting applications for our Winter 2018 experience, focused on immigration and human rights.  This program will travel to San Diego, California and will partner with Border Angels.  The group will depart on Sunday, January 7th and will return on Sunday, January 14th.

All costs associated with the ABC experience, such as food, housing, and airfare, are covered by ABC.  Learning Partners are required to pay for certain services including any required travel medications, passport fees, petty cash for souvenirs, etc.

Application Process
