The latest Apple iOS 11 upgrade has a known issue when sending and receiving mail with your native iPhone and iPad email client. Faculty and staff using the Outlook app on their Apple device are not affected. If you aren’t using the Outlook app to access your TU email, the Office of Technology Services (OTS) recommends not upgrading devices at this time.
About the issue
In the native Mail app (Mail.app) on your iPhone or iPad, you cannot send or reply from your Towson (Office 365) email account after you upgrade to iOS 11. This is due to a compatibility issue with the Mail app on iOS 11 and Office 365. You might see an error message that says “Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server.”
If you’ve already upgraded your device
In the event you have upgraded to iOS 11 and are experiencing the issue described above, the best workaround is to install the free Outlook for iOS client from the App Store. The Outlook for iOS client fully supports various email services, including Office 365. OTS Training provides self-help resources for using the Outlook App on mobile devices.
Apple is working closely with Microsoft to resolve the issue and will release a fix soon in an upcoming software update. Additionally, OTS will post more information when it becomes available.
Note: This issue does not occur in iOS 10.
