New malware protection to be installed on TU computers

To better protect TU faculty and staff computers from the increasing threats of advanced phishing campaigns and evolving malware, the Office of Information Security will be installing a new technology from Cisco called Advanced Malware Protection for Endpoints, or Cisco AMP for short.

What is Cisco AMP?
Cisco AMP is a protection solution used to detect, track, analyze, control, and block advanced malware. It provides protection before, during, and after an attack. Cisco AMP performs more in-depth analysis than the average antivirus software, and is not a replacement for antivirus. To learn more, watch Cisco’s AMP marketing video.

What do I need to do?
No actions are required. The Cisco AMP connector will be automatically installed on your computer early next week. The Office of Technology Services (OTS) will support the software so you do not need to manage or update it. However, you should be aware that it’s running and be familiar with what the alerts look like. See the Cisco AMP training document for sample screenshots and more information.

Reporting issues
Cisco AMP blocks malicious malware, but it can occasionally block a legitimate business application. To report an incorrectly blocked application or a Cisco AMP desktop alert, contact the OTS Faculty/Staff Help Center at 410-704-5151 or submit a TechHelp service request at https://techhelp.towson.edu.
