Duo Multi-Factor Authentication now available for optional early enrollment

You may have noticed that your bank, credit card companies and even the Social Security Administration require use of multi-factor authentication when logging into their systems. This extra step proves that you are you when accessing accounts. Towson University has joined this security movement, and is now protected by Duo, which is being rolled out to faculty and staff over the next several months. Duo will prompt you to authenticate your identity when using your TU NetID and password to access University resources and sensitive information.

As described in a previous T3 announcement, if hackers get your password, they won’t be able to use your NetID to get into services protected by Duo without having your enrolled device in their possession. This will help to protect data at Towson, such as social security numbers, student grades, medical records, sensitive research information, and financial information.

Optional early enrollment now available
All faculty and staff are now eligible to enroll in Duo; enrolling in Duo is not required (yet). The Office of Technology Services (OTS) will send a targeted email to your TU email address later this fall when you are required to enroll.

Why enroll early?
While it isn’t difficult to use Duo, early enrollment gives you extra time to get used to signing in. Now may be a more convenient time to enroll, versus waiting until it is required.

How to enroll
It is important to note that you are not automatically enrolled in Duo, and you must manually enroll your devices. You can choose methods of authentication that best suit your needs and situation. To enroll, see the quick start guide or visit the Duo Self-Help Learning Resource page for more detailed instructions and authentication options.
