Building bridges of cross-cultural understanding
Do you want to make a positive contribution toward building bridges of cross-cultural understanding, environmental sustainability and global peace?
How about hosting a student from Peru this summer? We have a compelling opportunity for you! The dates of the 2-week home-stay are July 16-31.
TU is welcoming a group of 10 undergraduate students from the Universidad de Piura (UDEP), Peru in July for an 8-week language and cultural immersion (English & Spanish) and environmental sustainability program. Two of the weeks will be spent on TU’s campus in July.
These 10 Peruvian students will be studying and working alongside 10 undergraduate TU students. They are part of a study abroad program: It Isn’t Easy Being Green — Peruvian and U.S. Students Tackle Local Environmental Sustainability in a Transnational Context. It is made possible through a 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund grant awarded to TU and UDEP this academic year.
Part of the cultural immersion of the program is that students have a firsthand experience living with an American family. It affords them an authentic American cultural and language learning experience and will have a significant positive impact. The Peruvian students are highly motivated and value an authentic opportunity to get to know Americans.
The home-stay will involve morning and evening transportation to and from TU’s campus Monday through Friday, breakfast and dinner on most days with the host family, and accommodation for sleeping and bathing. The students will be engaged in classes and projects on TU’s campus Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm. There are some program activities planned for weekday evenings and on the weekends.
Please consider opening your home and heart to a Peruvian student this summer.
