Sabbatical Presentation by Dr. Kay Broadwater – Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education

Process & Flow

As a practicing artist and teacher, I have been aware that in order to achieve balance both professionally and personally I cannot put the creation of art on  a hiatus while I pursue strictly academic pursuits.

The making of art must be given a high priority as it informs my teaching and my teaching and interaction with students informs my art.

The nature and focus of my sabbatical research was to re-enliven my work in the area of surface design, most specifically in the area of fabric design, which includes fabric dying, silk screening on fabric, relief block printing and various forms of exploration and experimentation while blending techniques.

New learning included the innovative process of silk screening on glass, a rich addition to my teaching repertoire.

The presentation will take place on Friday 3/10/17 at 3:45 pm in CA 2032.
