Teaching Online? Time to Get Your Edge

The goal of Towson’s Online Edge Certificate Program is to assist Towson instructors as they develop facilitation, pedagogical, and technical expertise relating to online instruction. These skills form a

foundation of good practice that faculty can continue to refine over time.

This certificate is ideal for instructors who are new to teaching online or blended courses and for those who wish to enhance their skills. There are three levels to the Online Edge Program. We recommend that you start with the Online Edge Facilitation Certificate.

You can:

  • Register now for the Online Edge Facilitation and Course Design workshops, offered this January.
  • Contact OAI for access the independent modules in Blackboard today: prerequisite Alignment module, elective modules on Accessibility and Copyright.
  • Fulfill an elective by registering for select OTS Training workshops offered on a rotating schedule throughout the year. (See the list of accepted workshops.)

 Three Online Edge Certificates:

  1. Online Edge Program Certificate – Faculty who choose to complete the entire Online Edge Program must complete both the Online Edge Facilitation and Course Design certificates along with two additional electives (see Electives below).
  2. Online Edge Facilitation Certificate – Once the semester starts, online instructors use their skills to facilitate discourse, engage learners, provide meaningful feedback, and keep learners on track. To earn this certificate, you’ll complete a highly interactive online workshop focused on these online teaching skills.
  3. Online Edge Course Design Certificate – Quality online course design starts with the fundamentals: opportunities for students to master skills and gain knowledge in order to reach course goals. In addition, online faculty must know which instructional methods, activities, and assessments work well in this mode. To earn this certificate, you’ll learn with colleagues as you design an online module of study for one of your own courses.
