Microsoft Office 2016 is now available for all Windows computers as the standard Microsoft Office version on campus. Office 2016 looks a lot like Office 2013, so existing features are easy to find. New features include:
- Easy document sharing with real-time multi-user editing
- Improved file attachment features in Outlook
- New Excel chart and equation options
- Smart Lookup: search the web from within a document
- Enhanced help with Tell Me, which allows you to ask questions in your own words and get answers within the application
How to Upgrade
The Office of Technology Service (OTS) has completed testing of Office 2016 and recommends upgrading your office computer to the new version by using the Software Center at a time that is convenient for you. Installation could take more than an hour, so consider starting the upgrade when you leave for the day as it does not need to be monitored. OTS will not be performing remote upgrades by department because there are no significant changes, only updates to the features. Computers in classrooms and labs will be upgraded by local IT providers within the colleges. If you prefer not to complete the upgrade yourself, OTS will begin upgrading faculty and staff computers automatically in January 2017.
Note: Financial Services is still completing their testing of Office 2016. If you work with PeopleSoft financials, you can wait to upgrade to Office 2016, or try upgrading and see if it works properly. OTS can revert your computer to Office 2013 if you encounter issues.
