September 8th, Literacy Day, is the launch of our “Clinic Celebration Reading Challenge” as part of our #5decadesofreed@COETU celebration – we need YOU!
Faculty: post a challenge on social media. This would be a great way to kick off school spirit at the beginning of the semester! Please also share the challenge with your students.
The challenge encourages nominated participants to be filmed (or photographed) with a book of their choice and then nominating others to read the book. (The book can be of any length, genre or reading level.) Participants have 48 hours to comply, by accepting the challenge or forfeit by way of a charitable financial donation to Towson University Reading Clinic through The Towson Foundation. While nominating others in the video, the participant will highlight the best thing about the book he/she recommends and the reason why he/she encourages others to read it. The participant can post the challenge on his/her social media while tagging the nominees and using the event’s hashtag #5decadesofREED@COETU.
A challenge might sound like this…”Hi! I am accepting the Clinic Celebration Reading Challenge by rereading my favorite childhood book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. I have always loved this book because I can really relate to Alexander – I mean – who hasn’t had one of those days? I challenge (name and tag 3 people here) to either share their book choice including a challenge to three other people within 48 hours using #5decadesofreed@COETU or make a charitable donation to the Towson University Reading Clinic at https://towson.givecorps.com/projects/4093-college-of-education-reading-clinic.”
Thank you so much for considering being a part of this celebration and helping to spread the word about the Reading Clinic as we continue to change lives through literacy!
