As fall approaches, so does the annual health benefits open enrollment. It is the time when you can enroll or make changes to benefits without having a qualifying event. It is also the time when you enroll in flexible spending accounts (available to regular faculty and staff) for the next plan year, as those plans do not roll from year to year.
If you are currently enrolled in health benefits, do not want to make changes for the 2017 plan year, and/or do not want to elect flexible spending accounts, no action is required.
If you are currently enrolled in health benefits and want to make changes, and/or enroll in flexible spending accounts, please see the guidelines below.
- Regular faculty and staff whose benefits were effective on or before August 16, 2016 – changes must be made using the interactive voice response telephone system.
- Regular faculty and staff whose benefits were effective after August 16, 2016 – changes must be made using the regular enrollment form.
- Contingent faculty and staff – regardless of benefits effective date, changes must be made using the contractual enrollment form.
If you are enrolling in benefits for the first time, you will use the enrollment form based on your employee status – regular or contractual.
Be sure to mark your calendar for October 7 to attend the benefits fair. Read T3 often for the latest open enrollment news.
