Attend the Service-Learning & Civic Engagement Conference (SLCE) 2016

The Service-Learning & Civic Engagement Conference (SLCE) is being held on April 2, 2016 at Universities at Shady Grove. SLCE is an annual event hosted by a network of universities and individuals dedicated to creating strong civic engagement, service-learning, and community partnerships in the Maryland and D.C. area. You can learn more about the conference at the website.

SLCE is a time to reflect on how service-learning can best be integrated into your course design, how your service-learning courses best meet the needs of the communities you are partnered with, and how you can take the service orientation out of the classroom. The day will be filled with workshops, speakers, and presentations to facilitate your own reflections on your service-learning and hear from others as well.

You will also have the opportunity to connect with other faculty, staff, students and community partners doing this work in the DMV Area. This is an excellent chance to meet individual working in community organizations and find partnerships for future service-learning projects. Community partners will also be sharing their own experiences and needs to provide a crucial perspective in the world of service-learning at SLCE. Working and interacting with other individuals invested in developing community partnerships and strengthening community ties will provide space to promote sustainable partnerships and long-term cooperation.

Finally, this event provides a space to think about how to create an environment to encourage social change and service and provide support to students and other faculty.

To register for the conference, please contact Stephanie Easterday at seasterday@towson.edu by Friday, March 11, 2016. Funding for registration is available and multiple transportation options will be offered.
