From O’Neill’s and Hutzlers to Pettyman and Scarborough the garments in this exhibition represent 150 years of Towson and Baltimore’s interconnected history. On display are garments whose origins link them to Towson University, through local donors, or to Baltimore, through various dressmakers and department stores.
The Towson University Historic Clothing Collection, a division within the Department of Theatre Arts, is a collection of original garments dating from the early 19th century through the 20th century. The collection focuses chiefly in Baltimore history as a fashion center for the Mid-Atlantic and was developed for teaching, sharing, exhibit and inspiration. The exhibition is curated by Julie Potter. Exhibition research and design by Kathy Abbott and Emily McCort.
