Job Description
The Office of the Provost is seeking a faculty member who will play a leadership role in the University’s efforts to diversify the faculty and the student body and assist in continuing efforts to provide an inclusive and respectful campus community. Under the direction of the Vice Provost, the Provost’s Fellow for Diversity & Inclusion will:
• work with the Assistant to the President for Diversity to articulate a unifying vision for diversity and inclusion at Towson University. The Provost’s Fellow for Diversity & Inclusion will work with many constituencies (including institutional leadership, academic deans, department chairs and the individuals and groups who are already involved with diversity and inclusion issues and programs on campus) to provide a focal point within the Provost’s Office for programing within Academic Affairs that supports the institutional goal to support and affirm a campus culture that values equity, diversity and inclusion.
• promote a culture of equity and inclusion within Academic Affairs at Towson University
• provide advisement on policy development in support of equal opportunity and full participation
• support the University’s programs to diversify the faculty and students
• expand faculty development opportunities focusing on topics of diversity and inclusion
• create effective mechanisms for communicating Towson University’s broad commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
• encourage creativity and innovation in programming, pedagogy, research, recruitment and training
• facilitate group dialogue, particularly around challenging issues
Minimum Qualifications
• Tenured Faculty
• Demonstrated record of developing diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs linked to Faculty and/or students
• Ability to work productively with faculty and the staff in the office, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various internal and external constituencies
• Demonstrated knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures
• Ability and desire to work in a dynamic environment
Application Process for the Provost Fellow for Diversity & Inclusion
The application materials should include the following:
• Current CV
• One page narrative statement including a reflection on past efforts and initiatives in the areas of diversity and inclusion
• Endorsement Letter from the Chair
Applications should be submitted to Dr. Maggie Reitz, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Office of the Provost) by July 17, 2015. A decision will be made by August 3rd and the Fellow will be for the 2015-2016 Academic year with possible reappointment for one additional year. The anticipated workload would be one day a week and come with a course release each semester.
