Faculty and staff email quotas are increasing by more than 200% this summer with Office 365

The Office of Technology Services (OTS) will be migrating all faculty, staff and student employee mailboxes to Office 365 during June and July 2015.  As a result, all mailboxes will have a 50 gigabyte quota (a 200x increase) and a new Outlook Web App experience.

About the migration:

  • OTS will move all faculty/staff mailboxes within each department at the same time.
  • You will be notified of your migration approximately 1 week in advance. There is nothing you need to do to prepare.
  • The migration will be performed remotely – OTS does not need access to your office to complete this process.
  • Your mailbox access will not be interrupted during the migration.
  • PST (Personal Folder) Files will not be affected by this migration. However, there are plans to seamlessly migrate PSTs into mailboxes once all mailboxes have been migrated to Office 365.

 

After your email has been migrated:

  • On a smartphone the new server settings should be automatically set. If your phone cannot get new mail, make sure your username is set to your email address.
  • Outlook may need to be restarted after you log back in. You will get one or two messages asking you to close and reopen Outlook.
  • After logging into Outlook Web App (outlook.towson.edu) there will be a message notifying you that your mailbox has been upgraded. This message contains a new URL to be used for future access.
  • Permissions applied to a mailbox (e.g., delegates, calendar permissions) for individuals NOT yet moved will break until they’re moved. Once moved they will be restored automatically.

For Room Resource Owners:

  • There are changes for configuring calendar resource permissions and settings. A separate communication will be sent to Room Resource Owners.
  • Room resource names will change from “DEPT, Resource Name” to “DEPT – Resource Name.
