New employees are not permitted to begin working without prior authorization from the Office of Human Resources.
Supervisors are responsible for confirming that every new hire visits the OHR on or before the first day of work to complete Section 1 of the I-9 form, to ensure compliance with federal law.
Supervisors should contact the OHR to discuss any I-9 not completed within the required timeframe. This may result in separation, which could have significant impact to pay, benefits and immigration status. Furthermore, I-9s completed outside of the required timeframe are tracked and discussed with Management Advisory & Compliance Services as part of TU’s internal auditing procedures.
