Date:  Wednesday, February 18

Time and Place:  Meet and Greet/Coffee and Snacks in the CLA Writing Center, LA 5330, 4:30 to 4:45pm; Workshop presented in LA 4118, 5:00 to 6:00pm

The CLA Writing Center invites you to its Spring 2015 Conversations on Teaching and Writing workshop on “Assignment infoPlaylist:  Teaching Students to Research and Write for the Digital Age,” presented by Joyce Garczynski, Towson University’s Communications & Development Librarian.

Looking for an easy-to-grade assignment that teaches students how to find and evaluate internet sources, use copyrighted materials properly, and write for an online audience? In this workshop, Joyce Garczynski will discuss how she and other librarians have worked with classroom faculty to turn the library’s resource guide series—known as infoPlaylists—into course assignments. Joyce will guide attendees through the steps involved in creating an infoPlaylist and she will provide a sample rubric for grading the assignment.

In her role as Towson University’s Communications & Development Librarian, Joyce teaches students about the research process, manages publicity for the library, and writes grants. She received her MLS from the University of Maryland’s iSchool in 2009 and holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Research from the University of Pennsylvania. She also has worked as a research assistant and project coordinator for the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
