A delegation from the Universidad de Piura (UDEP) in Peru visited TU from Tuesday, May 10 through Thursday, May 12, 2016. The delegates included: Dr. Sergio Saldaña, Rector, Dr. Susana Vegas Chiyón, Executive Director of International Affairs, Dr. Luis Chiyón, Engineering faculty member, and Mrs. Joyce Saldaña. The primary purpose of their visit was to develop collaborations between UDEP and TU’s colleges and academic units.
The group was welcomed at Washington Dulles International Airport by members of the International Student and Scholar Office. Upon arrival on campus, the delegation had a welcome breakfast with representatives from the Office of International Initiatives and Study Abroad Office followed by a tour of the campus including the Center for the Arts, Media Center, College of Business and Economics and the Cook Library. Afterward, they toured the Institute for Well Being where they saw facilities including the Hussman Center for Adults with Autism and the Hearing and Balance Center. The delegates were welcomed by WTMD staff members for a tour of studio and performance spaces overlooking the heart of Towson.
A lunch reception in honor of the Peruvian delegation was hosted by the Office of International Initiatives at the TU Marriott where Dr. Schatzel, Dr. Chandler and Dr. Saldaña exchanged gifts and discussed opportunities for collaboration with leaders from the TU Colleges. Following the meal, a meeting and presentation was held in the Administration Building. The group presented UDEP’s academic programs and campus and learned more about TU’s offerings, with time to exchange ideas and lay plans for TU and UDEP students, faculty and staff to work together.
To mark their last evening in the Baltimore area, the delegation visited the National Aquarium and sampled regional specialties at Phillips Seafood.
On Thursday morning before departing, the delegation met with representatives from the English Language Center to discuss teacher training initiatives.
