The John Gissendanner Symposium, designed to highlight scholarship in African and African American Studies, will be held on Friday, April 17, at 10:00am in the College of Liberal Arts, room 2110. In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, two panel discussions are scheduled related to the issue of voting rights. The first panel, beginning at 10:15am, will focus on the struggle for voting rights during the Civil Rights Movement; guest speakers are Judy Richardson and Betty Robinson, veterans of the Civil Rights Movement and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). The second panel, beginning at 11:30am, will focus on contemporary voting rights issues and will feature Towson University students and faculty, along with special guest, Attorney Warren Brown.
